What we do & offer:
Our mission is to provide all adults the opportunity to improve the quality of their lives through literacy. We are a volunteer tutor program that provides assistance in Adult Basic Education(ABE), in reading, writing, and math. We also work with learners who want to learn or better their English as a learned/second language (ELL/ESL) and also provide help with GED preparation. All of our programs are free to residents in and around Tazewell County.
We are primarily funded by a grant awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Division of the office of Secretary of State*. In addition, we are recipients of the Adult Literacy Grant from Dollar General Literacy Foundation and AARP OATS.
We are always in need of volunteer tutors – no experience necessary! We welcome adult learners at any time throughout the year. Tutors and learners meet one-on-one at agreed upon locations outside of the home, and work with the literacy center staff so we can tailor the lessons to the learner. Please call or stop in to the office and we would be happy to help answer any questions and show you around the learning center.
